Pre-Mater /Pathway

This bespoke Internship, Career Development & Professional English Language Programme has three core objectives:

language acquisition, professional training and work placement. The course is aimed at school leavers, with a minimum IELTS score of 5.
The main focus of the language component is building on existing knowledge of the four main language skills (reading, writing, listening, speaking).

Development of General English, Professional English and academic skills are key objectives of the language component of the programme.
Language learning activities take place in an open, supportive environment, and include vocabulary building and practice, describing and role-playing real-life situations. Participants will also have opportunities to experience and learn about Irish culture.

The second objective is in relation to building awareness and developing skills in the area of career development training. This training will be delivered by NUI Galway’s Career & Development Office and will focus on preparing young adults for the workforce including preparing CVs, how to conduct oneself in the workplace, learning about working in different environments and cultures and expectations of employers. The overall aim of the training sessions is to prepare students for their internships in Galway based organisations.
The third objective of the programme is participation in a 4 week internship in Galway based organisations. The internships will be managed by the School of Medicine at NUI Galway. We expect students to fully adhere to the internship guidelines that will be provided by NUI Galway. Diligence, good time management and flexibility is expected by all students in their engagement with their internships.
